Per
usual, the night view from the Shuttle camera has a mask of heavy “snow”
imposed over it. This is so common, it gives the impression of normalcy.

By
this time, the Sun was well risen and far too bright to look at. Remember,
at orbital velocity a “day” lasts only 45 minutes, rather
than the 8 to 14 hours we experience on the ground. So this means that
in the minutes since sunrise for the Astronauts, the Sun has gone way
above the horizon…and there is NO
atmosphere to filter it’s intensity, even AT
the horizon, as there is for us on Earth.

About
two minutes after the “Hey Scott!” incident, Parazynski seems
to have tried to cover the oddity by claiming, out of the blue mind
you, that the two had been admiring the sunrise. Yeah right! Sure
they were. This is pure balderdash!

Not
only had these two guys been seeing 16 sunrises per day since reaching
orbit three days earlier, but when this happened, the Sun was obviously
in a different direction from where they were looking. See for yourself
in the photos above. The sun was toward the top of the “screen”,
and the two men were looking to the left of the page. What ever caught
their attention, we can be very sure it wasn’t the sunrise. One can
also remind them, and the public, that an Astronaut’s time on EVA is
very carefully planned, and there is NO
time for idle sightseeing during an EVA. Here is the exact transcript
of Astronaut Scott Parazynski’s remarks. Doesn’t it sound to you like
he was trying to cover up for the implications of his exchange, and
shock, over what Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield called his attention
to mere moments before?

One
final note on this event, and possible consequences. Very soon after
STS-100 landed back on Earth, Canadian
Astronaut Chris Hadfield suddenly quit the Astronaut corps, after
only two flights, with no explanation. Did something “up there”
scare him into leaving NASA? Or did he get his ears burned for drawing
attention to something not acknowledged; over an open radio link? We
can only wonder about these questions. Also, we can only speculate on
just exactly WHAT it was that
so captivated two busy Astronauts carrying out a critical mission on
a long planned, and trained for, EVA.

An
interesting side note to this event is that in early January 2002, an
employee of NASA working inside Mission Control Houston, e-mailed me asking
if I had seen and recorded the strange object he and his colleagues had
seen on THEIR monitor screens that
night! There ensued a discreet partnership, and he offered tips on when
and where to look for more anomalies during the flight of STS-109 in March
2002.

Several
months later, and after many e-mails were exchanged between us, he wrote
to say that he’d been threatened and could no longer have contact with
me. Sad to say, I never heard from this brave and honest soul again.

Here
we have an animated GIF in which the video clip has been zoomed in 250%
on Discovery and the anomaly.

Please note that
the object seems to come out from UNDER
Discovery, move away just a little, and come to a complete STOP!
This is not the behavior of ice, or debris. It has also been taken into
account that this event was filmed with a hand-held camera through a window
by a Cosmonaut aboard the Mir Space Station. Since the object is obviously
moving independently of the small movements caused by the camera operator,
it can be surmised that it is not a reflection in the window.

In addition,
some may claim that this is dust or debris within the station, seen between
camera and window glass. IF that were the case, what caused the
object to Stop? Dust motes do NOT
have brakes!

We can also safely
assume that this object is not celestial in nature. Astronomical objects
do not maneuver as this object does. They describe a smooth arc across
the heavens, accelerated by the 17,500 mile per hour (28,000
km/h
) velocity of Shuttles and Stations on orbit.

Due to the fact
that the producers of the television program did not include exact date
and time for this film clip, we cannot pin down the exact time of day,
angle of the Sun, or the relative angle of the space craft to Earth.

As
can be seen in the graph, the average brightness never returns to the
level it had in the frames prior to the pre-flash. This was somewhat puzzling.
Since the sunlight reaching the camera was slowly increasing in intensity
as the shuttle moved through space, some suggestion of an upward slope
to the brightness curve would be expected. But the curve is essentially
flat on both sides of the series of flashes and higher by 2 DN after the
flashes than before. The graph would seem to suggest that the brightness
increased in a discrete step at some point during the series of flashes.
However, a graph of brightness versus time plotted over a much longer
time period indicated that this was probably not the case.

The graph for
the longer time period showed the average frame brightness curving upward
with time but accompanied by small periodic fluctuations. This graph is
shown in Figure 6.

The fluctuations
in brightness may represent fluctuations in the camera’s sensitivity,
although they might also represent some variation in the amount of sunlight
reaching the camera. Whatever their cause, it appears that these periodic
fluctuations occasionally cancel out the continuously increasing brightness
due to the change in the sun’s position, resulting in short periods
of time over which the image brightness remains relatively constant.


As would be expected, attempts to fit the measured brightness values to
a hand-drawn curve always resulted in the measured values around the 2.2-second
time span of the flash series falling noticeably farther from the curve
than the values for other points in time. What was surprising was that
the time span over which the points failed to fit any continuously rising
curve was considerably longer than 2.2 seconds – perhaps as long
as 12 seconds. It did not appear that this could be accounted for by the
small periodic brightness variations. To confirm this impression, I performed
a curvilinear regression for all the data points, excluding those in this
12-second interval, to produce the red curve also shown in Figure 6. This
is a graph for the curve:

and b2 are the constants computed by the
regression procedure.

Such
a regression equation has no basis in physical theory, but it provides
a meaningful description of a population if the points in the population
conform to it reasonably well. As can be seen in the graph, the curve
fits all of the data outside of the excluded time period quite well, with
a standard deviation of 0.21 DN for the sample of 96 points.

MOST IMPORTANT
NASA U.F.O. footage I have ever captured myself.
It is FAR too complicated, with
too much going on, to be confined to a single page at Project P.R.O.V.E.
So, it has been divided up into segments, with a page concentrating on
each set of anomalous objects in order of appearance.

Within moments
of passing over Miami, it became apparent that there were powerful thunderstorms
raging on the ocean far below. Equally visible amongst the lightning flashes
were a number of anomalous objects. Over the next nearly seven minutes
some 18, or more, Unidentified Objects
manifested themselves.

Two distinct
kinds of object could be seen down there amongst the clouds. Some were
quite large and bright. These moved rather slowly, and seemed attracted
to the lightning discharges. The other class of objects were much smaller,
and moved at extremely high speed, but also appearing to head for the
lightning discharges. Researcher, USAF Major (ret.) George
Filer of New Jersey, and Filer’s
Weekly Files fame, calculated the speed of these smaller objects to
be in the neighborhood of 100,000 miles per
hour
( 160,000 kph ) IN
THE ATMOSPHERE!
The small objects were also observed to DECELERATE,
enter the clouds, and become lost to sight.

I see little
chance that any of these objects might be meteors or aircraft. Meteors
burn out rather quickly, often leave trails, and NEVER
visibly decelerate. None of these
objects exhibited any of the characteristics of meteors or any other astronomical
phenomena. Even the largest of aircraft would be too small to be visible
from the altitude of the Space Shuttle’s orbit (220
miles, 350 km
) and are not capable of the velocities observed.
Besides, no pilot in his right mind would willingly take his airplane
into a thunderstorm, let alone twenty fliers in seven minutes! It would
be suicidal! The lighting conditions during these events changed from
total night at the beginning, both above in orbit and below on the surface,
all the way to Sunrise at sea level by the time the downlink was cut.
Yet, the aspect of the objects did not change throughout the entire sequence
of events.

Ordinary debris,
and bits of ice, are frequently seen against the Earth during twilight,
both at sunrise and sunset. But, as the Sun rises and illuminates the
surface, these rapidly become lost against the bright background of the
Earth and Oceans below. These objects remained bright and easily seen
right up to the point that the live downlink was unceremoniously cut off.

It is fairly
obvious that it took some time for the people in Houston to notice what
was going on out in the Atlantic. When they did notice, it was too late.
The whole series of events had been captured by my VCR. It would have
been nice though, to see what that last
object looked like in extreme close-up.

Now
we have a very amazing “ring” of coloured lights. As can be
seen, they resemble a disc seen almost on edge, with multicoloured “running
lights” on the perimiter. The enhancement of this photo amounts
to turning the brightness, and contrast, up to maximum. One wonders
what this could actually be. It is certainly not ice crystals, nor any
debris this writer is aware of.


All in all, some very unusual events occured during the STS-93 Flight.
These objects remain unexplained.
