May 9, 2008

The last update on this subject was from January 2007, more than a year ago. I think an update on my progress is a bit overdue.

To date, I have written about 375 pages of narrative for the second volume of UFOs and the National Security State. I am (finally) confident that the book will actually be done by the end of this year. I expect it to be around 500 pages at completion.

The completion of this volume, however, will not mark the completion of my history, as I have decided that the subject demands not two, but three volumes to do justice to the depth and breadth of this topic, which deals not only with a history of intriguing UFO sightings, but the policies (as we can gather them) of relevant military and intelligence agencies, as well as the attempts by private citizens and organizations to come to grips with the UFO phenomenon.

Therefore, Volume Two will cover the years 1973 to 1991, a period of time that I now see has a great deal of thematic unity. As a period of UFO-related history, it works.

I am happy to say that the research for Volume Three, covering 1991 to the present day, is already completed. Therefore, the delay between Volumes Two and Three will not be nearly as long as has been the delay between Volumes One and Two.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank the many readers who have encouraged and supported me along the way. When I started on this journey so long ago, I truly had no idea of what I was in for. It has been hard, but worth it. Every bit.
