". . .The history of the U.S. media shows unsettling developments, not least of which is penetration by the intelligence community. . ."

Since at least 1953 when The Robertson Panel recommended the ridicule factor become permanently attached to reports of UFO sightings and their further investigation, only the most courageous in the mainstream have dared to even give the anomalous reports a second look. The responsibility to (openly) investigate this elusive mystery has therefore fallen to the average curious citizen, many of whom are quite good at what they do, fortunately for us! Also fortunately for us, the book publishing industry does not have the same kind of clamp on it as the electronic and print media. So while you will not yet see the subject of UFOs or intelligent non-human beings on this planet as a regular topic on the 6 o'clock news or NPR, you can learn a lot and keep up with the latest civilian-scientist findings published each year in book form. And these days it is not difficult for a highly motivated and organized individual to successfully self-publish his own work should his conclusions be too incendiary even for the most sympathetic publisher.

One of the most important books published this year (2000) is Richard Dolan's UFOs and the National Security State: An Unclassified History, vol. one, 1941_1973, and is just one of these books. Dolan decided to self-publish this book because he believed his information was too important to allow a major publisher to have the chance to edit it. So this private citizen assumed all the liability himself on top of spending all his own money over several years to collect and collate the data that support his premise. All the more reason to buy his book and support this brave guy!

The "National Security State" of his title might be considered a pithy exaggeration for the freedom lovin' US of A, but it doesn't take Dolan long to demonstrate that he was entirely serious and quite literal when he named his book. On page 12 he shows why fundamentally, we are living in a national security state and our sources of information are subtly influenced by, if not controlled by, the intelligence community and other secret organizations.

"The history of the U.S. Media shows unsettling developments, not least of which is penetration by the intelligence community By the early 1950s, the CIA had cozy relationships with most major media executives in America. The most significant of these were with the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Christian Science Monitor, the New York Herald-Tribune, the Saturday Evening Post, the Miami Herald, Time-Life, CBS News, Scripps-Howard Newspapers, Hearst Newspapers, the Associated Press, United Press International, the Mutual Broadcasting Systems, and Reuters. In addition, the CIA had major ownership over many proprietary publications throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas. By the early 1970s, the agency admitted to having working relationships with over 400 American journalists. Consider the possibility with 400 strategically placed people throughout the mainstream media. There is evidence that this relationship continues.

"These connections gave several benefits of the CIA. They provided cover for agency operatives and enabled its staffers to gain valuable information from journalists. More insidiously, however, were instances in which reporters planted disinformation on behalf of the agency. In other words, information from such august publications as the New York Times in all likelihood contained articles that were intentionally false, planted on behalf of the CIA. We know that such things occurred; what we do not know is how frequently , or when."

The CIA must be very proud! The average American would be shocked to consider that their beloved and trusted news personalities (people they trust to factually inform them on important news) are regularly censored by the feeders surrounding the military and intelligence communities, defense contractors and the criss-crossing corporate/entertainment boards. One of the most regularly censored items, the further study of UFOs, will continue to be ignored until the "Vested Interests" behind the news are exposed. The infamous Robertson Panel that started the whole "debunk at all costs" trend in the mainstream consciousness was a CIA-sponsored, heavily guarded secret for several years while its nefarious intent was launched.
